1. You make me SMILE!
Bill Clinton is adored in Ohio's heartland. Who is with him today, Ted Strickland? Francis came with him to Springfield on Sunday. I don't see Hillary in Ohio today so I hope Ted is with him or John Glenn.

They are so smart with campaigning the small towns. It leaves a good impression. He will be in Dayton tonight after some Union Dinner, go speak at Stebbins High School.

2. Francis Strickland was with him both in Athens and in Portsmouth
And of course the Stricklands are adored in Scioto County.

Which Bill Clinton will show up today in Athens campaign rally?

By Terry Smith
Athens NEWS Editor
February 25, 2008

If you watched the debate last Thursday in Austin, between Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and you support Clinton, you might have been thinking, “It’s great the candidates can be civil and all, but Hillary has to do something dramatic if she wants to stop Barack and win the nomination.”

Fast forward to a Saturday appearance in Cincinnati when the former First Lady came out swinging against Obama for campaign fliers his campaign distributed in Ohio, allegedly misrepresenting her health-care plan and positions on NAFTA.

But first, recall what Clinton said toward the end of that CNN debate in Austin: “I am honored to be here with Barack Obama. I am absolutely honored. And you know, whatever happens, we’re going to be fine.”

Well, maybe not.

Saturday in Cincinnati, holding the fliers in her right hand, her anger ramping to a boil, Clinton declared, “Shame on you, Barack Obama! It’s time that you ran a campaign consistent with your messages in public,” as Clinton ally Gov. Ted Strickland stood behind her, nodding like a trained seal.

Clinton went so far as to compare the Obama mailings to the Dark Prince, President Bush’s former chief adviser Karl Rove.

6. and look--after they demeaded Hillary-they really were MEAN to Bill--they are looking for blood!

And what will Bill Clinton’s role be today in Athens and elsewhere in Ohio and Texas this week? The main consensus holds that the former president’s aggressive attacks against Obama before Super Tuesday backfired and hurt his wife’s campaign. They occurred around the same time that Obama began gaining momentum and winning consecutive primaries.

The Clintons may decide to give Bill the “good cop” role, if he’ll take it, to avoid a replay, and if this is the case, today’s speech in Athens will be mainly positive and only generally criticize Obama. On the other hand, the Clinton campaign may just figure, what the hell, take off the muzzle and let Bill go.

For the sake of pure entertainment, we should all hope for aggressive, combative Bill Clinton today at the Athens Community Center. But if you’re looking at this through other lenses, it’s not so easy to know what to hope for — unless you’re a Republican and revel at watching the Democratic Party split itself into pieces just like your party’s been doing.

The Clintons have no choice but to go on the offensive. Their challenge is to calibrate the assault so precisely that they can overtake Obama without insulting all the Democrats who support him and hurting the greater cause in November.

8. Athens = Ohio University
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 06:00 PM by theHandpuppet
Despite the fact that Hillary has some long-time support among county officials the only real population/source of jobs in Athens County is Ohio University. It's because of that vote I expect Athens County to go Obama and obviously someone at the paper has an ax to grind.

BTW, Athens and Scioto rank #1 and #2 as Ohio's poorest counties. If anyone is deluded enough to think Obama is gonna be shaking the raintree down there then I have little hope for them. Strickland has done more for Appalachian Ohio in two years than any Ohio governor has done for decades. And if HRC might pull out a nomination from this primary after all, I've no doubt Bill and Hillary would remember the kind of support she received from the Stricklands and from Appalachian Ohio.

10. That will only offend the Democrats there.
Obama-mania does not appear to bode well with the small town crowd.

11. Well they've learned the hard way...
... that politicans who offer nothing more than faith and hope to cure real-life misery are simply blowing smoke out their ass. As Loretta Lynn once said, "I may be ignorant but I ain't stupid."
