March 9 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's three wins over Barack Obama in contests last week appear to have persuaded many uncommitted superdelegates to wait until the end of the primary and caucus season to pick a candidate, the Washington Post reported, citing a survey by the newspaper.
Many of the 80 uncommitted superdelegates the Post contacted over the past several days said that, while they are reluctant to override a clear voter decision, they will decide for themselves if, in June, Illinois Senator Obama and New York Senator Clinton are still close in the delegate count.
More than 300 of the 796 superdelegates -- members of Congress, governors, mayors, and state and national party leaders -- who will be seated at the Democratic National Convention in August remain uncommitted, the Post said.
An analysis provided to the newspaper showed half of the uncommitted delegates are elected officials, almost a third are from states that haven't held primaries or caucuses, a third are women and about a fifth are black or Hispanic, the Post said.
