What's the best way to refer to Senator Clinton?
This might sound like a stupid question, but I've gotten pissed the last 6 years every time any right wing or MSM personality refers to Senator Clinton as "Hillary". It seems demeaning and contrary to her status as a U.S. Senator, so I have been somewhat religious in referring to her as "Clinton", "Senator Clinton" or at worst "Hillary Clinton".

Now I know that in order to avoid confusion, "Hillary" instantly distinguishes her from President Bill Clinton.

Buuuuut, I've seen her signs and I think that self-promotion as "Hillary" helps her to personalize herself, and get the voters more comfortable with her.

So, as an Obama supporter (unlike others I never refer to him as "Barack"), I don't want the way I refer to her to be other than how she and her supporters prefer it, as I'm not a fan of fanning the flames around here (and in general).

So, any tips?

David

1. I used to always use Sen. Clinton
and thought it demeaning to call her just Hillary. However, once I realized she was using that in her campaign and all her signs say Hillary, I started using it. It does distinguish her from her husband and I think it makes her more personable. One of the things I hear used against her is that she is cold. I don't think she is but I do think using her first name makes her seem more like-able.

3. When calling anyone by name or title..
I like to take cues from the person. Hillary seems to want to be called by her first name...it's all over her web site, and used in signage and ad materials. So Hillary it is, for me. You can choose to call her Senator Clinton, however. I'm not a fan of calling her "Mrs. Clinton," as it ignores her title as Senator while not calling her by her preferred first name. It can be seen as demeaning (although much better than SOME of the names she has been called on DU).

Appreciate the question from one of the good Obama supporters!
