Clark makes appearance for Hillary - Laconia

Gen. Wesley Clark and his wife, Gert, paid a visit to downtown Laconia Sunday afternoon where they held a rally-the-troops session at Sen Hillary Clinton's headquarters on Main Street. Since his September endorsement of Clinton, the retired four-star general has been a dynamic presence on the campaign trail, giving a boost to Clinton's military bona fides.

"Republicans are fixated on strength and salivate about national security," Clark began, saying that, since Vietnam, many in the upper echelons of the military have leaned toward the Democratic side.

But Clark said the real lessons learned by the military came in the 1980s when conventional military spending fell and they realized that the only way to be effective was for all its personnel to be trained and ready.

"Democrats stand for that in America," he said. "The Democratic ideal is to believe in helping the little guy."

"We're going to succeed in helping every single American be what he or she could be," said Clark, emphasizing that, as a senator, Clinton increased access to health care for all members of the military, strengthened individual protective armor for U.S. military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and advocated for better care for the country's veterans.

"Hillary Clinton will be a great commander-in-chief," said Clark.
