[Two Americas]

I decided to confront the Obama zealots on the issue of race. I made 5 posts on some inflammatory threads, and I am surprised that all I hear are crickets in response. Apparently, they have no response.

I know that so many of you have been badly abused and are frustrated, disgusted and angry. It is easier for me, perhaps, to confront them then it would be had I been a strong Clinton supporter all along. I know from when Edwards was in the race that it is very difficult to endure personal attacks on a candidate you support and are working for. It is only human nature to identify with the candidate and to be vulnerable to the attacks of others.

If my line of argument in these posts is useful for any of you, please feel free to use it. Easier said than done, but I think we can take the high road here, and the Obama supporters are extremely vulnerable in a number of areas. Their tactics are to provoke and antagonize and anger people to steer things away from any critical analysis or intelligent discussion.

Thank you, Two Americas, for cogently expressing the ideas that have long been percolating like crazy inside my head. This tokenism is exactly the facile kind of alleged 'anti-racism' so cleverly used by the right wing to counter charges of racism against them. And BO, in my view, represents the token 'I'm not a racist' candidate to many whites. He is 'vanilla' (as he was described by blacks in Chicago during his run for the senate there), non-threatening to them. I do believe that he removes the guilt of racist history for some whites who support him. I think your being a Kucinich supporter (and I do share many ideas with him) betrays the deeper analysis you have drawn up about this race issue. It does become much clearer now to me the real and unstated reasons why O is so 'loved' by so many, who do not even realise why he is such an attractive candidate to them.

Clarence Thomas promoted tokenism and I cite
that as a failure against racism.

3. Two things for Two Americas:

First, my admiration for you grows with each passing post!

Second, I think the crickets may have come out because your posts were too thoughtful. That's part of the problem: DU has been taken over by hit and run snark. That appears to be the entire point of the takeover of GDP, actually. That kind of poster looks at thoughtful writing and can't function -- it's hard for them to fling shots at something complicated.

However, thank you for posting these; I appreciated them and I agree with your line of thought. "Using phony and superficial and personalized tests for detecting racism is a way of avoiding and denying the reality of racism." Yes.

5. Agreed, I have been guilty of the "hit and run snark" too. And typically feel guilty when I do.

I sometimes can't help it because the posts against Hillary are so virilant.

Nice running into you over here. I'm leaning Hillary, as she does have friends and supporter allies in the JE forum too. I'm not sure why Obama supporters are showing up there "to show us the error of our ways"...lol.
