Clinton closer to McCain than pristine, unvetted, "new" Obama

Imagine how bad Obama's numbers will be after the rethug machine is through with him...Obama is at his peak in these trial heats; Clinton is at her floor after 16 years if vicious attacks from the rethugs and several years of attacks from some on the left. The "new" candidate almost always suffers during the general campaign as he gets defined (Carter, Dukakis, Bush 00', Kerry). The exception? Clinton 92' and even that had more to do with Bush declining due to a tanking economy than Clinton rising on merit.
