The battle has been joined. The blogosphere has gone BERZERK.
This will be the lead story on every news program tonight. It's going to make Willie Horton and the Swiftboaters look like an Easter Egg Hunt.

This is no longer a Barack Obama crisis, it is now a DEMOCRATIC PARTY CRISIS. If Obama does not take major steps to squash this and fast, the DNC should ask him to resign his membership in the party. We simply cannot afford the negative publicity that this will cause.

I do not understand the reluctance of the Obama Campaign to deal with this issue: perhaps Obama is the arrogant megalomaniac that some of us always believed in our heart of hearts that he was.

This disaster MUST be addressed, and if Campaign Obama does not deal with it, Howard Dean MUST.

7. here-------it was a thought --but goes along with BO needs to do something for Dem party now.

“The Obama camp. couldn't immediately say whether he'd remain on the committee.”

Wonder what is next to come??

Recap:
Samantha Powers has left the O. camp because of a rude outlandish rant.
Maxim Thorne—a member of O. camp GLBT committee resigned a few days for Rovian-style emails he was sending out to blogs. (see below).

And yes, G. Ferraro resigned from the Clinton camp. This post is not about her—so spaming the thread say she resigned is irrelevant.

Wright's committee

Jeremiah Wright, in the news today because video of a sermon (parts of which had been reported, and disavowed, before) adds some heat to the discussion of his relationship with Obama, has generally been described as connected to Obama only informally — a religious figure with whom Obama has said he disagrees at times, a kind of cranky uncle.

But he also has a formal role on the campaign.

Wright is a member of Obama's African American Religious Leadership Committee — the sort of largely honorary, advisory body that in recent days has recently been used mostly to throw people off who say controversial things.

The Obama campaign couldn't immediately say whether he'd remain on the committee.

Thorne had to resign today from Obamateam: Another Yalie Embarrasses Obama

2maxim_031108_fresh.jpg

Another Barack Obama adviser had to resign today after making incendiary statements about Hillary Clinton. Maxim Thorne, formerly a chief at the Human Rights Campaign and, until today, a member of Obama's Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/ Transgender Leadership Council, recently e-mailed a lengthy anti-Clinton screed that began by declaring Clinton "a disaster for the Democratic Party" and went on to question Hillary's whereabouts "when Monica was having sex with Bill" and assert that ……" Thorne resigned almost immediately after the e-mail surfaced…….

12. I am curious - what major steps to squash...?
Obama has no defense on this. 20 days or 20 weeks of association with Wright he could do something. 20 years - nothing he can say. Combine Wright's world view with Michelle's senior thesis - disaster. Examine Obama's unity message against what some are calling his black separatism views and you have the definition of hypocrite or liar.

This is an absolute disaster for the party. The question is why did this guy (Obama) get this far? What institution/process has failed?

Is this why John Edwards didn't endorse Obama - did he know this was coming? Why did all those old white male senators endorse him? Surely they knew about this but did their desire to retain their personal power base override their common sense? What a fucked up mess.

13. I can only blame the Democratic party for this fine mess.
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 01:56 PM by libbygurl
Yes, this-and its potentially damaging implications-had to have been common knowledge among party bigwigs. Not to mention the crazy primary system, the disenfranchisement of MI and FL by Dean et al., etc.

What really gets me is why so many in the party jumped on the O bandwagon while cruelly snubbing HRC in this primary. What is the real story behind that, I'd like to know! What has really been going on with this BO juggernaut that now threatens to collapse and take the party down with it?

15. He hid his past.
His supporters conned him into believing he could do no wrong. That's where the arrogance comes from. From Teddy Kennedy through to Tom Dashcle, I've been watching the endorsers pile on like you watch the leukocyte count skyrocket in a Leukemia patient, knowing all the time it's a deathwatch.

After this is over, I'm going to work with a third party, as there won't be enough left of the Democratic Party to work WITH.

14. I know that.
I can only hope he does something very radical and soon, because his supporters are so blind as to see anything around him as good and holy.

If this isn't fixed, we could see the permanent splintering of the party. It has happened before. I am SO depressed, and he isn't even my candidate.

16. This is what really pisses me off:
I could tell from early on that Obama, despite his smooth talking and "charm" is very inexperienced as far as campaigning and competing in a hard campaign. I really think that he believes so much in his aura that he thinks all he has to do is say he doesn't agree with something soomeone said and "poof" ....problem gone.

But what about all the people backing him like Kennedy, Daschle, his campaign manager, etc? Are they all so daft? So goddamn STUPID that they really thought Obama didn't need any vetting? That just doing the kumbaya, Hope and unity thing would be enough?

I can't believe how stupid these people are!
