Pelosi's Delegate Stance Boosts Obama

By DAVID ESPO
The Associated Press
Saturday, March 15, 2008; 5:02 PM

WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says it would be damaging to the Democratic party for its leaders to buck the will of national convention delegates picked in primaries and caucuses, a declaration that gives a boost to Sen. Barack Obama.

"If the votes of the superdelegates overturn what's happened in the elections, it would be harmful to the Democratic party," Pelosi said in an interview taped Friday for broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

The California Democrat did not mention either Obama or his rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, by name. But her remarks seemed to suggest she was prepared to cast her ballot at the convention in favor of the candidate who emerges from the primary season with the most pledged delegates.

COMMENT: Just curious: I have a strong sense that Pelosi doesn't like Hillary Clinton. Previous news item (with brief video) early last week or before, way before the Wright affair became news, had her stating that the so-called 'dream ticket' would not ever come true after what Hillary had said (and I don't recall exactly what it was she was referring to).

Does anyone here have any idea why?

1. Notice
That now Pelosi is suddenly the Golden Girl of DU.

Last month she was Neville Chamberlain in a pair of sensible pumps.

3. Pelosi
By now has received umpteen emails against her remarks. I hope Hillary throws her out of her post when she is elected.

5. She is EVIL ! ! ! ! !
I can not believe she is positioning herself to Obama. She should stay neutral. She is trying to side with whom she thinks is the winner. Besides that, she has been a weak house speaker and is SPINELESS to Bush. Kick her skinny ass out. UGH ! ! ! !

If it's for brilliant and witty stuff, then you should keep winning it. I'd really hate to be on the other side of a campaign you're working on!

Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 11:26 AM by maddiejoan
Did you know they have compiled a list of all Hillary supporters to pass out to help ignore us all?

I fully expect if Obama gets the nomination, for there to be a McCarthyesque blacklisting.

"Are you now, or have you ever been a Hillary supporter?"

16. They simply refuse to see how fascistic their behaviour has been everywhere.
The descriptions of DailyKos by Alegre and Hill supporters just mirrored the situation here on DU.

15. Let the witch-hunts begin! I'd be honoured to be on that list, to tell you the truth.
I don't think I'm trying hard enough, though.

I know the O supporters on DailyKos were already looking up the home and work info on Hillary supporters, one of the things that prompted the boycott.

Jackboots, anyone?

I have just been informed by PM that I have, in fact, received several DUZY's.

mea culpa

Though, I will note, never for snarking on Obama, and frankly --that's my "A" material so far.

And totally agree she hasn't been such a shining example of House leadership for the Dems!

28. She is saying what she thinks will benefit Obama now. If he starts losing
whatever position he has now and it looks like Hillary will fit her guidelines as winner, she will shift position to put him back in favor.

That's what the Obama camp has done with regard to supers. First it was go with your district. After Hillary took Massachusetts and created a hypocrisy problem for Kennedy and Kerry, the stance shifted to supers who don't go with district will face a well financed challenge to their seats, mostly impacting black supers. Bill Thugtastic Bradley, who put forth the stance on Jim Lehrer, added that sure someone could challenge Kennedy and Kerry but they probably wouldn't win.

They are all sickening.

Other then an ignore list what are they doing, looking up all Hillary supporters and sending out a lynch mob or blacklisting them. If so, that's there problem, not mine.

The least she could do was stand up to * et al. and do some good with that power!

25. I just sent her one--what she's advocating is illegal, isn't it?
Isn't the ELECTED responsibility of the superdelgates to form their OWN best judgment? Isn't Pelosi now telling them what to do?

26. I think you're right. From that same story:
Pelosi's comments could influence other House Democrats who are neutral in the presidential race and will attend the convention as superdelegates.

I can't believe how transparent her bias is on this issue. Easier than standing up to the Republicans, though.

29. My personal opinion about Ms. Spineless is that she is batting her
eyes at the prospect of becoming Obama's running mate. I think becoming First Woman Speaker of the House went to her head and she wants to keep outranking Hillary. I wish she'd concentrate on doing her own fu-king job and put impeachment back on the table. However, like her erstwhile protege Obama she prefers to make nice with Repukes while stabbing fellow Dems in the back.
