Reaction to the advice of Social Services

I’m sorry
it all seems so wrong...
Last spring I felt
young, strong.
Then angina, anxiety
and C.A.B.G. times 3.
Now they’re pressing me
to file for disability.
I am not afraid of dying
From diabetes or C.A.D.
As much as I’m afraid
Of losing 75+ acres
of weedy alfalfa and
5 acres of scrubby hickory
That sustained decades of dreams
Of living elderly and free.
