I wrote this poem after I visited Los Alamos -- I was
struck at the time how much information seemed to be more propaganda than education. The words in italics were actual phrases on their educational materials there.

After Los Alamos

Radiation is our friend.
Power unleashed. Destruction
denied. Mutations only occur

in a woman's unborn fetus.

After all this careful consideration
is it possible to maintain control

in an environment that doesn't
lend itself well to manipulation?
Beneath the skin. Within the blood.

Each cell of the body living perfectly
happy by itself, being changed
by flash of lightning, dental x-rays,

nuclear waste. Not anything it
can control, and suddenly in one cell
division, multiplications of great

magnitude occur ~ continuing
until a new form has begun ~
a new life within choking

out healthy tissue continuing
to cleave separate cleave separate
relishing its new birth and freedom.

1. As if an unborn fetus is an afterthought...
the arrogance is amazing...

2. yes.... and to define "mutation" only as "three eyes" or "12 fingers"
instead cells going haywire and causing cancer was disturbing as well.

they state that you get as much radiation sleeping next to someone for a year that you get in one dental xray.... it's so simple, isn't it?
