1st post - Other atheists in recovery?
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 05:02 PM by RadiDem
Hello all!

First post in this forum.

I'm a recovering addict with 15 years clean (and sober) in NA. I was raised religiously, became an atheist in my early teens, and remained one until I got clean in my 30's

In the last 15 years I have made repeated efforts to believe in some form of a loving God (not higher power) and am now back to being a confirmed atheist (this really started in-full after 9/11 and the religious wars since then) - and it is working just fine for me.

I fully belive that I can practice the 12-step program's spiritual precepts of having a higher power - which I feel to be 'turning it over' and 'surrender' without belief in a deity.

I'm a happy atheist in revovery!

Any others?

Cheers!

1. I'm not an atheist, more of an agnostic
I did not believe in god when i got sober, and i have struggled with the concept of a higher power for 16 sober years now.

"C) God would and could if he were sought..."

A friend pointed out that i was not doing any seeking, so looking for an alternate path to the steps, i found a book this week called One breathe at a time - Buddhism and the 12 Steps. Just started reading it, and it makes sense so far...

:hi:

2. I started out agnostic but I truly can say I've had a spiritual awaking
as a result of the steps

I'm no Christian or any other organized faith but the universe seems to have a guiding principle for me now
