I am an alcoholic.
It has been so hard for me to write these words. My life has spiraled out of control.I want it back.I have been dry for 24 hours.Any words of encouragement would be appreciated.

1. hi w8liftinglady

just a day at a time, an hour at a time, a minute at a time don't pick up the first drink.

if you're like me, if I drink, I get drunk. I've never understood those folks who can have *a* glass of wine and leave the second glass half full when they go home

this forum has several threads addressed to newcomers to sobriety with lots of great advice, maybe read through a few of them for some tips and don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions

being sober is a great way of life and you'll have a blast! and the coolest part? you'll remember the fun you had!

12. yep
that is the truth, it really is about one day, one hour, one minute at a time. My very first sponsor would always calm me down when I would get freaked out by asking me 'what time is it' and when I would answer walking me through what I was gonna do between then and bed time, which was usually not more than a few hours away.

Good luck to you W8lifting Lady, it's one day at a time for all of us. :hi:

2. May god grant you the serenity to accept the things you cannot change
The courage to change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference. That's a big step making that admission, and some might say the hardest one. Take things slowly right now. Don't think about trying to stay sober the rest of your life, just stay sober for today or even just for the next hour.

I believe in you

3. Read the replies directed to my posts, w8lifting lady....
I first posted here on March 15 ("Holding onto my sanity by the skin of my fingernails"). I took my last drink the morning of March 19 and have now been sober 4 days. The folks on this board gave me their support, encouragement, advice, and wisdom. They helped me to find the courage to walk away from alcohol one minute at a time; to find an AA meeting, no matter how reluctant I was to "go there;" and to come clean with my husband and my physician about my drinking. I have a loooooong way to go on Recovery Road, but without these folks, I wouldn't be here.

Keep posting here, and read past posts and replies. The resources in this forum are SO valuable. Everyone is willing to reach out a hand. Including me, just 4 days sober.

6. Welcome to our little forum
I am so glad you are here!

I echo what AZDemDist6 said, there have been a few newcomers to this forum lately and a lot of helpful suggestions given.

You are not alone! Find some meetings you are comfortable going to, and stay sober one day at a time.

:)

You can do it.
