Seven Year sober

On this Easter Sunday I celebrate 7 years of sobriety. I spent years in the Eqypt of alcohol addiction and self loathing. I grew up thinking I wasn't good enough. I knew I was a loathed faggot. At first, I turned that feeling into the positive energy to make myself good enough. I was determined to be smart, decent, talented, and honest. Then that didn't work. No amount of accomplishment could negate the shame of what I was. So I found a different way to deal. Good old friend Al Cohol. Soon I had sold my soul to slavery.

By the time I found my way out of Egypt, I was a broken man. Seven years later I am still in the wildnerness. I have my life back but could lose it any time with a drink. Al is still out there. There is no promised land. I have a good job, a nice apartment, a nice car, and a loving dog. On this Easter Sunday, I am glad to be out of Egypt.

I'm only half way there (three and a half years clean and sober), so you look like Obi Wan Kenobee to me. As Craig Ferguson so eloquently put it, I don't have a drinking problem any more - but I could sure get one real fast.

Yep, ole' Al wants to reacquaint himself with all of us

It has been a long journey but I plan to keep on keeping on. Now I am on a diet and have lost about 11 lbs.
