Anyone go to meetings in Miami Florida or around there?
I posted in the Florida group that I want to move over to the SW but no one has addressed it.

Anyway here is a little bit of my story.

I haven't drank since 1978. I stopped going to meetings about 1 1/2 years ago mainly because my X-husband moved right across from the AA clubhouse that I had called home for about 9 years. I can't go back there because the man is dangerous. Period.

I also was determined to cut my addition to AA. But I have been so lonely and isolated and all these people who say "See, none of your drinking buddies stay in touch with you when you stop going to the bar" are the same ones who don't want anything to do with your if you don't go to meetings. :grr:

So this morning I realized that since I am depressed I can justify going back to AA because I can't find anyone outside AA who I can talk about these things to. I do talk to friends up in NJ still. I don't know why those friendships still stay strong and the ones down here just seem to fade away.

So when I checked intergroup I saw a ton of club houses in the Miami Dade area. If anyone knows about these clubs I'd appreciate hearing about them. The area that I may have found some work or work related things is

NE 19 Ave North Miami close to Biscayne Boulevard. I know that is not a residential area but I no NOTHING about that area. I just know that one business and where it is located. I just know that there is a big difference between south Naples and North Fort Myers.......about an hour......but they don't look that far away on the map.

Oh and if anyone would be so kind as to give me there phone # in a PM I would love to talk with someone.

Maraya

1. I used to live in Broward County
So I went to meetings there. I loved the meetings in FL. I went to lots in Hallandale,
Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale. There is a great biker meeting in Ft. Lauderdale.

I will send you a PM. I have a great friend who attends regularly and is a wonderful
person to boot.

All the best.. OB

4. There should be tons of meetings in the Miami area
Check it out:

http://www.aainmiami.org/

I went to treatment at Wayside House in Delray/Boca, so I'm somewhat familiar with what's available there, but right now I'm living at the other end of the state.

You don't need an "excuse" to go to a meeting. I'm doing relatively well right now, but still looked forward to meeting with my home group this evening. We had a fantastic time! It's one of those women's groups that don't seem to end, but just keep moving (from the church social hall> to the restaurant> to starbucks> etc.). When I was depressed and tempted to drink, I sometimes went to two or three meetings a day. I couldn't string together more than three words some days: all I could do was sit there and cry. But the support I found there kept me sober and alive.

My suggestion: find a women's group. They tend to be a bit more supportive than mixed groups. Ask for telephone numbers. You will be overwhelmed with numbers! If transportation is a problem, call the intergroup office and tell them. They usually have volunteers that will be happy to arrange a ride.

Good luck.

5. Thanks Judy. I called their intergroup office this morning and the number
went to the wrong person so I emailed them and they emailed back. I'll try again tomorrow and hopefully I'll get some numbers before I go across the alley to check things out. The east coast seems so big and I'm at a loss when thinking about where to live.
