A Dose of Humility... and laughter...
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 09:36 PM by RetroLounge
Last night at my home group, I took a cake for my 17 years. My first sponsor was there to bring me my cake and coin. I sat in my chair thinking about all the profound things I would say.

Well, the 3 volunteers to bring cakes to the meeting didn't. The only thing they had were a pair of hostess cupcakes. The sight of My first sponsor Bill trying to fit 17 candles into 2 cupcakes made me laugh out loud and I forgot what I was going to say.

Seconds before I was to raise my hand when they asked if there were any birthdays, someone came into the meeting late with a cake. They ran it up front and then they moved the candles onto the cake, lit them, and sang Happy Birthday.

It was then I noticed only 14 candles on the cake. Bill told me to just be grateful I have enough brain cells left to be able to count. and he said be honest, and keep it short...

and again I started laughing out loud. And just shared some honesty about this past year...

God, I LOVE Alcoholics... and Alcoholics Anonymous...

5. And it is one of the things that kept me coming back.

I had so forgotten how to laugh.

8. Good point
It took a while for me too.

But I think I have had some of the best laughs of my life in the rooms
over the years.

9. Great story, Retro
As I always say: where else but AA can you get therapy, entertainment and great coffee for a dollar?

:grouphug:

Congrats on the seventeen again!
