Some days I hate being a responsible member of society
I spent my day calling financial institutions, going to the police station (eek) and setting up an appointment at the damn DMV. I lost my purse last Thursday and it never turned up.

There has not been any activity on my accounts, but I made the phone calls to get on record.

1. that sucks
if you are really concerned you may want to call the credit bureaus too and put a hold on your account so they have to notify you before they open any new accounts in your name

2. Despite my years of sobriety
my extreme absent mindedness has not improved so even after all these years I do not carry
a purse.

I cannot tell you how many times I have gone through the lost purse routine that you
are doing now.

I leave my drivers license in my car and if I have to drive my husbands car I wear one
of those things you strap around yourself with all your possessions in it. Sad.

A trip to the DMV would have been a prime drinking excuse in the old days.

5. I think the DMV is one of the circles of hell.
And the computers are always down. And everyone ahead of you is not a citizen.

Seriously, it's good to get on top of those things as quick as you can.

6. Oh Damn, KW!

That really sucks, bigtime!

AZ Dem's advice is very good.
Contact the credit card people and let them all know
your cards are gone.

If you need to talk, just give me a call.

7. Take a book and some knitting
I had to visit the DMV recently due to a lost driver's license. It wasn't nearly the hassle I expected. I think they've become a lot more user-friendly of late, at least here in Florida.

I'd hoped getting sober would help my faulty memory, but I still manage to lose stuff with distressing regularity. I was searching the apartment the other night for my lost copy of Assault on Reason, when I suddenly asked myself "Why am I standing in the middle of the living room with a frozen veggie burger in one hand, and a dog toy in the other?" I must have had something in mind - dinner? a dog walk? - but I'm not sure what...

And I still haven't found the book.

8. The CA DMV is still the paragon of inefficiency it always has been
Went to my appointment. Could not bring a book, because I had to keep my 5 year old entertained. That was the bright spot.

I have to go back, because I need to get my car "smog checked" before I can get my California plates - even though my car has all the "California emissions" equipment on it standard.
