Today is day 7 without a drink
I got sick last week and went to the hospital, AGAIN!! They treated my bronchitis but they saw me shaking and sweating. I finally admitted that I was withdrawing off of alcohol. They have me a couple shots of ativan and they were ready to send me home but just as they were preparing to discharge me, my heart rate went up and my blood pressure went up. The ativan wore off and I was in worse shape than they thought. My Doctor asked me in a sugar sweet voice, "Would you like to go to Arapaho house? They will make you feel better!" I thought about it for a minute, and i said, "Sure!" Arapaho house was a jail for boozers. They took everything away from me, including my shoes and Ipod. The food sucked. I had to sleep in a big room with a bunch of drunk strangers. And they took a breathalyser and vital signs every hour and a half around the clock. Including when you are trying to sleep. It was terrible.

I got out the next day and hightailed it home. Gave my Grandmother my Visa and checkbook and told her that all my bills are paid. Don't let me have these back until next month when I have to pay bills again.

I am going to do it this time. Gawd, what a hassle.

2. It's funny
Spending five days in ICU with a bleeding belly didn't keep me from drinking, but one night in Boozer's jail did. My roommate is thrilled. He said it's very nice to have me around and coherent.

3. It's one day at a time, Roon!

That old " cliche" comes in real handy when you're going batshit crazy.

One day, break it down to one hour at a time.

It works!

Stay sober, stay safe, OK?

4. Roon, I am so glad you are sober.
Can you get to any support groups (AA or whatever works)?

I am glad you did not die in the hospital. And that you survived the "boozer's jail".

As Kajsa said, break it down to moment by moment if you have to.
