Spouse is out of control - need advice
Hi Folks, first time here.
My wife is an alcoholic and has zero control - she is out of it almost all the time.
She falls frequently when passing out and has broken bones on occasion. Most recently her jaw that is now wired. That was a month ago, they loosened it up a bit.
You should see the looks I get in the emergency room when people see bruises on her face.
She got our doctor to prescribe xanax because she claims to have claustrophobic panic attacks.
She is now abusing the xanax. My stepson just called, she is passed out on the bed. The dr. said no more refills so I don't know what's going to happen now because I took the pill bottle away. Probably back to the rum.

2 stints in rehab, 28 days each so I don't think another one will help.
I have no idea what to do now, not a clue.
Does anyone know what I should look into next?
Thanks.

1. dude that sux
does she even admit she has a problem yet?

are you attending Alanon and taking your son with you? That would be a place to start.

I'm so sorry, what a horrible spot to be in

2. Awful.
What's with her doctor?

In rehab she has to recognize she's got the disease. There are a few threads here discussing this.

Peace to you.

3. Like AZDem asked,
does your wife admit to having a problem?

Until she does, she's not ready to get help.

This is an awful situation for you and your son
to be in!

Please get to some Al-Anon meetings.
Take your son with you.

I'll be thinking of all of you.

4. Another rehab
Some of us take longer than others. I had some serious sober time, but over 15 years I went to rehab 3 times. I suggest she goes to long term sober living after that. Al-Anon is a must. If your stepson is young he must be protected from the insanity. Raise her bottom and force her hand.

6. She might stay out of control until she decides to stop drinking.

So you need to do what you have to do to make life OK for you and your stepson.

Like everyone else here, I recommend Al Anon. Take your stepson. It really helps
kids realize that other kids are going through the same thing and it gives them
a way to deal with it.

I hope you find some support for yourself and your stepson soon.

All the best.. OB

7. I agree with OB,
very important that kids understand that they're not the only one in such a situation (AND that they didn't cause all the bad stuff.)
