5. GO! GO!!!!
I have a pacemaker, I'm a nearly 61 year old weight lifter, only dumbbells at this time, though. I did the same thing you are doing-going to my first AA meeting helped me so much - I found a lot of people there who were facing the same problem I faced and found a lot of support.
I recommend you get a list of local meetings as soon as possible- there usually are lots of different meetings, all a little different. Attend several. Find some that really do it for you, keep your ears open.
Go on from there.
Please feel free to post how the meeting went, what is happening with you, etc.
I'm also sharing my experience-I celebrated 20 years last March.

GO!

mark

6. well..I made a mistake.
...and chose a meeting too close to home.As soon as I saw some of my patients entering,I chickened out.I will seek something more metro(Dallas) for my first meeting. But I did get up and at least go...and I didn't drink afterwards.

9. Living in a small city metro area of about 120K
Having worked in a treatment center, a psychiatric unit, a pain clinic, and now a geriatric psychiatric unit, oh and an outpatient mental health center here too over a 20 year stretch, I know a lot of people that go in and out the door of AA. Find a meeting where you feel comfortable and that your anonymity isn't going to be busted out, but also be aware that at a meeting we are all supposed to be just alcoholics, and hope for the best.

I've had my anonymity broken, secrets revealed, etc., but none of it has been worth losing my sobriety over. It did make me angry enough that I avoided a lot of meetings for a long time.

Keep going back! It works if you work it! And you are worth it!

:hi:
