APA likely to combine substance dependence and abuse
Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 11:55 PM by usregimechange
The APA is considering combining substance dependence and substance abuse in their new revision.

One of the abuse criteria is being questioned, one that would enable many of us to be diagnosed with abuse at some point in our lives: driving a car while drinking. Anyone ever done that? How much drinking counts? No direction is given in the current DSM.

"While certainly unwise and risky behavior, whether a psychiatric diagnosis is warranted based on this symptom alone is questionable."

It's about time.
