I keep dreaming that I am drinking again

1. I've been sober quite a while and I, every so often, have a dream

that I'm sitting at a bar with friends drinking and no thought of being an alcoholic. I'm not drunk, just sitting there drinking. Who knows what it means.

I guess the real scary problem would be if, in the dream, you knew you were a recovering drunk and were screwing up and waking up in a cold sweat.

2. Yep, I get upset when I think I fell off the wagon

I feel much better when I wake up and realize I am still sober.

3. I had wet dreams for years after I got sober. . .

Most newly sober people I've known admit to them as well.

Frightening as they are, their occurrence eventually fades. It takes time but fortunately, the longer we remain sober, the more of that useful commodity we accrue.

4. "Wet dreams?" You must mean drunk dreams. Never had a frightening wet dream.

6. I did too for several years, Roon.

It's such a relief to wake up and find it was a dream
because they are so damn realistic.

Eventually, they fade away.
But they were an important reminder of where I could
be if I thought " I have it under control now".

7. I have been given a few years as well and yes, they still appear every now and then.

The disease never leaves...ever.

My brain is now promoting its finest attempt yet..."Medical marijuana!" Sure, it's from a DOCTOR, so it must be okay...:rofl: (My last slip was on half a joint, so at least I can remember THAT!)

8. My wife recently quit smoking - she dreams about cigarettes.

Your brain is used to being adicted and it is wondering WTF is going on...

It means you are doing well if you are worried about it.

9. It still happens to me occasionally

I just celebrated 5 years sobriety on Saturday 21 Aug. Tuesday night I had a vivid drink dream. They are usually the same - I'm not drunk, just sipping from a glass in my hand that's full of booze. I wake up with a start, and for a split second afraid that I've really relapsed before I realize it was a dream.
I like to take these dreams as messages from my higher power that I'm recovered from, but not cured of alcoholism. I have a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition. Got myself to a meeting Wed night and picked up that 5 year chip.

12. I've had them, too, and the last one was particularly vivid.

I was sure that it was true until I was really awake. There are a lot of people with long time sobriety in the meetings I go to and I've heard it's pretty common. Keep up the good work, my friend! I have 511 days (16 1/2 months) One Day at a Time. :hi: :pals:

13. I am embarrassed to say that I have been here since 2004 and

never knew this group existed. I got sober in 1985, what I remember about dreaming about drinking was doing it while I was awake. It gets easier.
