Let's try this: Today's menu (6/9/05)
I post daily in the exercise and fitness thread about what workout I've done for the day (well, I often take weekends off, but I post most every day other than weekends).

So, I thought I'd try a menu-a-day post here.

I'm going to post what I'm planning for meals today--when I post tomorrow's planned menu, I'll also update today's post w/ a post about whether or not the menu went as planned.

Whaddaya think:

breakfast:
1 egg scrambled w/ 2 tbs. salsa
2 tbsp. home fries
3 strips bacon (yes, I know it's full of fat, but I don't have it often and my little tummy controls the portions)
16 oz. diet snapple peach tea

Lunch:
small green salad (about 1.5 cups) w/ 3 oz grilled chicken, 2 oz fresh mozarella, 1 tbs. salad dressing
big glass of ice water

snack: handful of smokehouse almonds

dinner:
2 large meatballs w/ spaghetti sauce
tossed salad
piece of cake
(My kids have an awards dinner for NJROTC. I'll avoid the pasta, but I'll splurge and have a piece of cake)

evening snack (if I get hungry)
couple of slices of American cheese

(I know I have to fit a protein drink in there somewhere.)

1. MissMillie, that sounds like a yummy day ahead of you!
and very healthy too. It sounds like you are concentrating on getting your proteins in as well. Good job!

I should really start a food journal. You may inspire me to yet! Over 20 years ago, I lost 75lbs, and I kept a food journal meticulously. I found it really helped me then, because I didn't really realize all that I was eating, and how it added up! I was more calorie conscious then, rather than carb/fat conscious.

Watching Oprah recently, on the follow-up show about her weight loss secrets, she shared her favorite 3:30-4pm snack:
cup of decaffeinated green tea, a few almonds, and some small pieces of cheese. She said it got her over the mid-afternoon 'hump', and got her to dinner, without going off her program. A couple of days ago, I went grocery shopping, and remembered this, and got a can of almonds, so now we'll all be snacking on nuts!

2. I believe she also had some apple slices as well
with her snack...not that that's going to break the calorie bank. ;)

3. you are absolutely right!
I forgot about that... It looked like a really yummy snack that would fill you up, with not a lot of carbs or calories...

4. UPDATE: lunch didn't go as planned
For lunch I had 8 oz of pork & turkey chili.

I did very well at the awards dinner (stuck to my plan).

I had an evening snack that did not go according to plan--some shrimp w/ lobster sauce.
