and it was very rough on me...at the time, I was about 260 or so, and it worked me hard. My father in law had one, about three years back, and I had a hell of a time doing it for ten minutes, but I was roughly 100lbs heavier this time around....it worked me good...
I prefer the stair stepper, but the healthrider is damn close....I don't like the recumbent bikes either. My wife uses one, and it hurts my lower back badly...the first time I tried one, I lasted 20 minutes, before I stopped, and finished my 15k on my current bike...I just couldn't handle it, but my wife just loves the thing.
My only advice, is use the machine that works best for you, which you think works you the best....I don't know how much calories my walk, or my bike riding does, but it must burn enough to make me lose weight....but if I had the money, I'd buy me a stair stepper in a hearbeat...because it worked for me, I felt worn out/tired/sore when using it...aka I knew the machine worked me, and tested me, and I sorta/kinda dug that....:D
