Interesting, important article regarding exercise.
From the New York Times: Exercise Advice Often Ignores Jiggle Factor

The added jiggle and friction of moving body fat is more than just bothersome. It can alter people’s gait and make them more prone to injuries and joint problems. The discomfort prevents many overweight people from exercising altogether.

... But the jiggle factor, familiar to the overweight and the large-breasted, has been largely ignored by exercise researchers and most sports-gear makers. Only a handful of studies have tried to document the challenges and strain endured by large bodies in motion.

It's the first time I've seen anyone take this close a look at this issue. I mean, for years we thought it was all about fear of looking silly in front of other, skinnier people. Seldom have I read serious consideration that we might feel truly, physically uncomfortable while exercising.

One lesson of this article is: don't be afraid of tight clothes. They can provide great structural support.

1. When I first started trying to get back into shape....
I wore support hose under my sweats. It was SO MUCH more comfortable! I kept doing that until I'd lost the first 20 pounds. It really did keep the jiggling down. And yes, it is much more than just looking silly. It is very uncomfortable. I mean, we know that sports bras are important to comfort when exercising. Why would anyone not understand that keeping other body parts from moving around too much would be more comfortable as well? It seems like common sense to me.
