I started weight watchers last month and need some help.
First - I am not super chubby, but I do have a tummy and man boobs. I was diagnosed with RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and my steroid meds make it hard for me to lose weight.

I joined more or less to support my girlfriend. She is obese and needed encouragement to return to WW. So I joined with her.

Recently my girlfriend was hospitalized, and it may be a somewhat long term hospital stay (between 1 and 3 months).

I really don't want to go to WW. I want to return if my girl is able to recover and get out of the hospital. I want to go back once my girl returns to WW.

But I also feel like I should stick with it.

Any advice?

1. You might try switching to the WW online program.
It's less expensive. You get all the information, a discussion board, if you wish, and a pretty cool online food diary to keep track of your meals.

Also, if you leave WW, you can just rejoin when you return -- pay the registration fee again unless they're doing a free registration promotion. At least, that's how it worked when I worked for WW years ago. You won't have to pay for all the missed meetings if it's more expensive than just rejoining.

It's not that hard to follow WW without going to weekly meetings unless you feel like you need the group support.

Good luck to you and a speedy recovery to your girlfriend! :hi:

2. thank you
I'm more of an eat less, exercise more person. I do benefit from the groups (there are even a couple men in some of them so I am not all alone).
I do have access to the online stuff, but little time to utilize it (cause I'm always here).

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Peace and low stress,
mdmc

3. maybe WW isn't for you
not everyone thrives on group support, especially if it is most members of the opposite sex.

I've probably been a member of WW at least a dozen times in during my "fat" life.

I am no longer fat I am happy to say. I've lost about 80 lbs.

It took me a long time however (we are talking s l o w ... years).

The best advice I ever had for losing weight was so simple!

Advice was this: DON'T EAT AS MUCH

Guess what? Not eating as much does work I am very happy to say! :D

Whatever you decide to do, keep the idea of not eating as much in your mind. Eventually it becomes second nature I've found.

I'm sorry to hear about your dx of rheumatoid arthritis! That is a real difficult disease and watch out for the steroids as well. The doctors can really overload patients on them I've discovered.

I believe you are on the right track and I hope that your girlfriend gets better soon!

Take care!
