Dieting Tip: Appetite spolier
If you are looking for a great snack between meals that will actually satisfy you without too many calories?

V8.

Seriously. It's savory and satisfying. It has some sugars, but no sweet taste at all, so it doesn't flare up cravings for other carbs.

1. I love the Spicy one
I know it's much higher in sodium than the low salt kind but sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind....I drink a couple of extra glasses of water to counter-act the salt and call it all good. :hi:

3. Do you ever use it as a soup base?
I'll sometimes just heat some up with some browned onions, carrots, cabbage and what ever else I have in the fridge and call it lunch. I also use it to soak the dried TVP that we use to make veggie fajita's. I admit it's one of my favorite go to cooking products as well as a great base for a Bloody Mary.

5. Thats a good tip,
just how much vitamin K is in a v8? I imagine quite a bit....I can't have much vitamin k, but when I did drink it the spicy v8 was great...the ones with the fruit juices were good tasting, but I'm not sure just how healthy those ones were.

6. You could be right
but I haven't seen VK values for V8 listed anywhere. That's odd.

9. hmm, weird...you'd think
there would be vitamin k in there, but maybe because its a lot of tomato juice(which I believe has minimal amounts of it) is the main ingredient, and thats why its low in V8, most vitamin k is in leafy greens....

so, what other veggies do they put in a v8? Just tomato juice, and some spices?

10. hmmm,
This is primarily tomato juice with a few added extras, seven to be precise, including celery, and parsley, which I think gives it its distinctive taste, and is the deciding factor in wether you are a lover or a hater. It’s a very bitter after taste and it puts some people off. The ingredients of V8 are tomatoes, carrots, watercress, beets, lettuce, spinach, celery, parsley.

if parsley, lettuce, spinach, and celery, there should be vitamin k in v8, wonder why they don't list it on the can.

11. Are you by chance on coumadin?
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 09:35 AM by supernova
Here's a couple of links I found:

Discussion board for valve replacement where they are asking about V8, same as us:

http://www.valvereplacement.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-19885.html

Doc referenced in that thread:

http://www.ptinr.com/docs/Vit_K_registry.pdf

Hope these help.

:pals:

edit: Here's one more from Dr Gourmet

http://www.drgourmet.com/askdrgourmet/coumadin-v8.shtml

I did a search on "V8 Vitamin K" lots of links and lots of people mad at Campbell's for being so snotty about not testing for it. :P

12. I'm on the generic coumadine, aka warfarin
I'm on 10 milligrams per day, because of previous blood clots, and factor 5...

Being on a blood thinner is rough, when it comes to dieting, because I'd love to eat a lot of salads/fruits, but most contain vitamin k...even apples got mid levels of vitamin k and two years ago, I was on a steady diet of apples, and it through my blood levels off

I got the vitamin k registry bookmarked, as well as a lot of info the dietitian gave me...I eat greens very rarely, usually just after I take my blood test(monthly) so I got another month to get the levels back on track.

Even multi vitamins throw me off ,cause there is vitamin k in them(at least the ones I had)....
