I'm going back to Atkins induction
and the Atkins plan of eating.

Between my anything goes SO who wants to eat out every meal and the holidays, I've gotten off course and gained about seven pounds. :-( I really need to stay away from foods that I have problems digesting because they increase my appetite.

So, I'm going back to doing what always worked for me. Atkins. So for the next two weeks, it's protein and salads and low GI veggies and condiments.

Wish me luck.

1. Good luck, Supernova!
My husband eats large portions, I have one daughter who's
a vegan and one who is a junk food junkie.

Atkins was NOT going to work for all of us, so we're counting
calories around here.

Husband is 10lbs. down.
Daughter #2 is 4 lbs. down.

Daughter #1 and myself are not "weighing".

I have lost at least one pant size since Jan. 1, so I'm geeked!

Soon I'll be back in my size 14 jeans, which is my personal goal.

2. Good luck,
I always feel so much better when I eat that way.

My sister has such a good time trying to sabotage me.
Just do what works best for you and never mind the nay sayers.

4. I do too, tons more energy
when I eat Atkins style. I suspect I have wheat gluten sensitivity, which makes me feel over tired and foggy. All that goes away when I focus on Atkins.

My biggest downfall is in a restaurant, ignoring the bread and/or chips that come before the entree. It's almost impossible. :P

5. I know what you mean,
Bread puts me in what I call "a Carb Coma". Knocks me right off my feet. Any kind of Pasta, too.

To make things worse, a cracker or cookie will set up the most awful cravings, I just hate that.

I went to that "Sparkpeople" website, and a Dr.McDougall said, "For lifelong weight loss and good health eat like thin people eat (rural Asians, Central Americans, Africans, etc.) – a diet based on starches, vegetables and fruits." Why don't they take in account, food works differently on (or in) different people.

6. Dr. McDougall

If it' s the same one I'm thinking of, he advocates a vegan or nearly so diet.

Systemic Chaos is doing the McDougall plan and is apparently having great success with it. He's posted a couple of threads about it.

I just know that someday, science will find a way to tell us why certain meal plans work better for some than for others. I've run across plenty of people who say they felt lousy on Atkins, too. Hard for me to imagine, but there it is.

My theory is, you are better off eating what your hunter-gatherer ancestors were eating. It's the "paleo-diet" theory but modified for whatever was plentiful in any geographic area. Why do eskimos get along fine on mostly seal and whale blubber, for example? That's extreme Atkins.

7. And, the best of luck to Kirk, I've read some of his posts,
It was from reading about his success that I followed him over to SparkPeople and read about the "Starch Diet". Works for some.

My twin grand daughters are the perfect example, one does fine on carbs the other does best with more protein. They both are naturally "Paleo-diet" types, lots of fruits and vegetables, with a topping of protein for one and carbs for the other. together they lick the platter clean. And both stay naturally thin.

One size does not fit all.
