Sometimes it's something stupid that becomes the last straw...
Had dinner with Brother's family last week, while talking about a couple of cases of old family pictures that they had dragged out, my sister-in-law told me that she couldn't believe how skinny I was in high school. My jaw hit the ground, not because she was rude(she wasn't), but even in HS with a 36" waist I considered my self fat.

I had that idea in my mind a couple of days later, when I saw an exercise bike on sale. Really nice model-clearance price $40! Had a horrible time getting that heavy thing in the house! But as I put it together, I noticed the little statement on the back.

I have to lose about 150 pounds before I can use the bike I bought to help me lose weight! That it! No more bit of this, some of that approach to my size!

#1-I'm finished with this, I will go to the VA(just two miles away! Yea!) and get an exact weight! That will be posted later tonight.

#2-Got a kitchen scale and some guide books. Under 1400 calories a day is the first goal, if that's too easy, or not getting results after a couple of weeks, it goes down from there.

#3-At least one walk a day, build up length and speed as I go.

#4-Hit the gym at the VA 2 or 3 times a week.

#5-Post weekly updates on my weight.

Feel free to add to my list. To give support(or needed ricule).

I'm not going to stay like this, time to change.

1. I'm doing about 2,200 calories/day
and have lost a little over 35 pounds since May. I try to make them good ones, fish, chicken and no red meat. Nothing white, rice, potatoes, sugar or flour.

Started out walking and progressed to jogging at least 3 miles every other day. I could not believe how fast I progressed and how fast my blood pressure went down. Knees are killing me, but so what. I had bought a elliptical machine at a garage sale for $30. Couldn't do 5 minutes at first. My goal was to get up to 25 minutes. Got there and then I took off for the track. Less boring and I'm getting off on getting better every time I run.

It does not happen over night. Slow and steady, a pound every week or two. Hell that's about 50 pounds a year. 3 years is not that long.

Try those hemp seed hearts.

2. 35? Good work!
2,200 a day? Hummmm, well I already promised to let the doctor decide the calorie count on my yearly checkup(early Nov). Thinking about a meat free home, all veg's, fruits, and whole grains-leaving meat as an occasional treat on a night out.

Hemp seed? May have try some, looks interesting.

We will all be pulling for you.
It seems to get easier as you get in the healthy food groove.
About 2 years ago I got into the low carb diet and started down hill on my health with infections and such. I'm also taking a hand full of vitamins and antioxidants. Real big on D-3. I drink a half gallon of unsweetened herbal ice tea every day too.

I've gone from 250 to 212. Shooting for 199.

Keep us posted and updated.

7. Did you have problems with "infections and such" on low carb? Curious as I've not heard of that.
I've been on low carb for a couple of years. Really not loosing all that much, but feel pretty good and have decent blood work, so far.
I'm finding all the info on weightloss quite confounding. I've tried most everything and nothing really is working for me. I seem to stay stuck at 25-30lbs overweight.

I use SparkPeople for tracking food and exercise.

Either the Gabriel Method or I Can Make you Thin method, whichever strikes you the easiest.

(They have a very similar premise)

Oh and yes, start those walks, but DO NOT over do it.

Hell, I am back almost at ground zero, due to injuries, regarding exercise.

I was all the way to 20 on elliptical... back to five.

Oh and the injury happened in the most stupid of ways, off the exercise machine. We were doing a miniatures game and I strained my back. Don't ask.

But between that and a trip... I am out of shape now.

11. Thanks!
I'll check those out!

Definitely slow and steady on the exercising, injuries can set you back so much!

Sorry to hear about your back, wouldn't wish back pain on any one-it shuts you down completely! Hope it's feeling better soon!

12. It's also an old EMS injury
Next time I go down to visit parents gonna make an appointment with my dad's ortho. His advise on knee therapy has worked like a charm.

Oh that's in Mexico. I don't mind spending that good money.

15. Keep up the good work!
I came to this group to be re-inspired. I seem to be stuck again...I have to keep reminding myself that I'm still almost 40 lbs. less than my highest weight, instead of reminding myself of how I've "failed" to lose the last 25 or so.

Outstanding progress, daleanime!
