Kids dying in hot cars infuriates us - at times

June 28: A 30-year-old father leaves his 3-month-old daughter, Amberlee, in a hot car outside the family home in Chandler for nearly two hours. The father had taken the baby with him to run errands and once home forgot about her. She dies.
Oct. 30: a 22-year-old mother leaves her 17-month-old son, Ryan, in a hot car outside a north Phoenix restaurant for seven hours. The mother had gone to work and forgot to first take the tot to daycare. He dies.
The June story registered barely a blip on the public radar. It merited two brief stories in the newspaper. This week's tragedy has been all over the news and reaction has ranged from anger to outright cruelty. One reader referred to Ashly Duchene as a "Hooters egg donor."
moreIt really burns me up how there is so much more outrage if a child dies in the care of a woman, particularly if it's the mother.
I've actually heard people blame the MOTHER when a child dies while being watched by his father. You know, why was the father "babysitting" when everyone knows childcare is the mother's job? :sarcasm:
