I'm so damn tired
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/11/katie-couric-sexist-media_n_106595.html

Katie Couric writes an opinion piece about sexism in media and the supposed liberals at Huffpo prove her right about sexism.

I'm so damn sick and tired of it all.

I'm not watching TV anymore. I am so sick of the portrayal of women in the media that I want to puke.

A toxic message is being sent, day in and day out - no wonder people who don't examine their own biases don't see it - they're trained to think its *normal*

Well fuck that.

I'm not a fan of Couric at all, but I don't hate her and I don't dismiss what she's saying because I've never enjoyed her public personality.

And now she's being torn apart for her "character" on TV - the bubbly perkiness, but hell, how else was she supposed to act. She had two choices, sexpot or perky girl next door. But no, that's not sexism!

And of course, whichever choice she had made would have been criticized. Women can't win, period. And if you complain about it, then you're shrill or you should just "smile"

Next strange man who tells me to "smile" on the street is going to get kicked in the nuts, then I'll say, "No, U."

1. I agree with you.
Hillary has never been one of my choices for our nominee, but I absolutely agree that sexism in the media played a huge part in how the media portrayed her. And Katie Couric is absolutely right to call it out.

So now the same sexism she's calling out will be aimed more strongly at her. :(

Of course, I think the solution is for KC to call out the sexist commentary more often, rather than back down. If she builds a name for herself as a serious critic of this kind of shit she'll develop a following. Her happy fluff routine, while absolutely mandated by public sexism, has done very little to give her a solid following.

I'd become a fan of hers if she turned this into an ongoing critique. I'll support this broadcast, and any that follow, and I'll speak up about them.

2. People honestly don't get it
I use for example, when I talk about this something simple, like makeup. It's not that I MIND make-up, (Although, and forgive me for saying this but the potential combination of red lipstick, puffy lips and the idea of anal bleaching would stump a Freudian analyst--or maybe not)I like to point out that "venerable" public women have to wear full make up just to put a FILTER on some of the horrid comments people make about their appearance. It's expected by both men and women. I also always complain about uncomfortable shoes women wear to look "professional".

Sometimes, I get my point across that way. Not always, and it certainly doesn't change behavior. Sometimes I gives my red lipstick and high heels as sexual presentation speech. That one doesn't go over too well. Fun though.

3. I am completely fucking fed up too.
Concurrent with the Hillary sexism orgy, I was egregiously passed over in favor of a young male twerp for team lead in my IT department. I left that job for a 15% pay raise and genuine respect.

I had a shouting fit with the ex over the election tonight. He thinks KO "called Hillary out on her racism." I am calling my ex out on his sexism on personal experience. Mr. Man who got a masters degree in architecture on his own suddenly cannot lift the phone to order a pizza because he has a stutter. So it's my job to "understand" and to do whatever task he finds distasteful. Fuck it. I'm not a cuntslave.

Let the fourth wave of feminism wash over this country like a tsunami!
