Sexist comments will be when Michelle Obama is the topic? Do you think in the progressive community the sexism will be "noted" as sexism, or will our fine fellow liberals call it something else?
I'm already seeing it. I predict bad, very bad indeed. The "baby momma" Fox news flap was not only racist, but sexist as well, I saw the racism being addressed (even if it was only to deny that it was racism--the mind boggles)the the sexist aspect of the comment ignored. How she dresses is evidently more important than her being a career lawyer and any pertinent details of that career. There are the (inevitable?)comparisons to Jackie Kennedy, who was known as a fashion icon before anything else. Methinks Ms. Obama has got a lot more going on than wearing great dresses.
Another question. Do you think these efforts to place Michelle Obama onto a fashion plate offering are, perhaps--I'll be kind--SUBCONSCIOUS attempts to return women to the political status quo? (I personally feel it's a full on assault, the political elite and members in the good 'ol boys club have to be hanging on to their collective balls with both hands)
Politics are politics and the Obama's have one hell of a fight coming up. I hate to see a woman like Michelle Obama being forced into some sort of Jackie O. status out of political expediency.
I am NOT impressed by her Wikipedia entry, maybe it's just me, but it's got a bit of a nasty undertone. It's not bad exactly, can't quite put my finger what's wrong with it.
