GRRR! Bush Declares Sanctity of Life Day! ( Kick women in the teeth again)
Edited on Fri Jan-16-09 04:59 PM by saracat
What a hypocritical act from the murderer of millions , and what a nice tribute to the anti choice fundies! And another kick in the teeth to women under the guise of "Life" as he sails out the door. "Every child is welcome" but he can butcher women and destroy their lives. One more threat to Roe.Let us hope this can be repealed.

In one of his final actions in the White House, President Bush on Thursday declared Jan. 18 to be “National Sanctity of Human Life Day.”

“All human life is a gift from our creator that is sacred, unique and worthy of protection. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, our country recognizes that each person, including every person waiting to be born, has a special place and purpose in this world,” reads the presidential proclamation.

“The most basic duty of government is to protect the life of the innocent. My administration has been committed to building a culture of life by vigorously promoting adoption and parental notification laws, opposing federal funding for abortions overseas, encouraging teen abstinence and funding crisis pregnancy programs,” the proclamation continues.

“The sanctity of life is written in the hearts of all men and women. On this day and throughout the year, we aspire to build a society in which every child is welcome in life and protected in law. We also encourage more of our fellow Americans to join our just and noble cause. History tells us that with a cause rooted in our deepest principles and appealing to the best instincts of our citizens, we will prevail.”

Bush is scheduled to deliver a farewell address Thursday night which White House counselor Ed Gillespie described during the morning briefing as “optimistic and future-oriented.”

1. Too bad his interest in the sanctity of life doesn't extend to those already born.
"...building a culture of life," my left ovary.

4. Women should never have received the right to vote.
That's when we started being uppity.

3. Gross.
One last ditch effort to appease the base (that are pissed off), that he wasn't able to completely reverse Roe v. Wade (as promised). Sure he dismantled, set us back decades, and chipped away at constitutional rights--but that's not quite the same to them. Anything short of declaring abortion murder, and imprisoning women is a huge loss (in their eyes).

Though I doubt this will make up for anything.

8. LOL!
:spray: You crack me up, Blue Iris.
I sincerely hope you're right. If there's ever been a time I need to believe in karmic retribution, it's now.

5. Does anyone know if this
can be easily repealed?

Obama "plans" to repeal the Global Gag Rule. As far as I know, it is easily within his rights to do so.

I can see no reason for him to put off repealing both immediately.

6. I don't know, but I hope so
The sheer hypocrisy makes me sick, and here I thought I was over visceral responses to georgie. You'd think I would have learned by know.

9. I don't see anyone recognizing this day...
...except the "anti-choicers." I feel most will ignore it, even if not repealed. Who is he to declare a day of anything at the end of his term?

10. I hope our next administration stops endorsing religion
and stops pushing religion down our throats. I hope they stop pushing the anti-choice shit at us.

I hope they have the will and courage to undo all this shit that Bush has done.

Obama has repeatedly made a big point of talking about his faith though, and how much it influences him. I don't know how much we can hope for.

14. Welcome from me as well
DU is a microcosm of generalized gender attitudes. Kind of an social acid test for some issues.

When I think that there's so much hostility to women's issues here, I'm forgetting about the many who are in support, just not necessarily frequent posters....

And thank you for the welcs :)
