Beckham to the Galaxy
There are few pew posts in the lounge about this as I recall. But I'd like to here it from soccer nation (from soccer people) --is this a good signing, and great signing, or just a yawn in terms of MLS's evolution.
I think it's significant. Becks is like a traveling circus and any exposure that MLS gets is better than none. But more importantly, it means others will cross the pond to MLS before they're geriatric. I'm all in favor of MLS being an american league for americas best young players. But having first tier seasoned professionals from high stress leagues around the world sprinkled amongst MLS youngters can't hurt. This will particularly help the next wave of Clint Dempseys and Bobby Conveys who one day will play in their prime abroad. Cross pollination is good.

2. I do think MLS has to make the games more meaningful
What Bruce Arena was saying last year-- One bracket. Two top teams make final. That's it. It kind is in keeping with the rest of the world but keeps the american "big game" concept and opportunity for upset. Americans like second chances. Perhaps even do or die game if there's a tie amongst 2 teams for second spot. Maybe we are not ready for relegation, but perhaps deny the bottom two teams some home games the following season etc --priming the pump for relegation one day!
