With the amount of coverage going on in these games, it makes sense.

2. I don't see why not

The officiating has been horrendous the past few years (though I'm not talking necessarily of BCS games). I'm sort of related to an SEC official (by marriage), and when I last saw him a few years ago, even he was commenting on the lousy quality of officiating in college football.
