So now that Vince has decided to enter the draft.......
...what do the Texans do with the first pick? They've pretty much toed the line so far and said that they would stick with drafting Reggie Bush (assuming that he does declare), but I have to think that Vince's Houston-area ties and his statewide appeal would make him a tempting pick. If I'm Charley Casserley, I have a problematic decision to make. I'm betting that the Texans front-office is going to get a lot of comments in the next few weeks regarding Vince vs. Reggie.

Personally, I'd take Vince over Reggie. Vince has an indomitable will to win. He's the most competitive athlete that I've ever seen outside of Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods. That will to win would play well with the hometown H-town crowd. At the very least, he'd fill the seats. If I'm building a team, I go with a natural leader like Vince.

2. I don't see a rationale for that.
I'm not sure why they've made the indication that they would stick with Reggie, other than maybe they've decided on a firm plan of action for rebuilding. It's a shame to have to use the word "rebuilding" for a team that's technically still an expansion team, but they've taken so many steps backwards this season that it seems like that's the only phrase that fits. If you're starting from scratch, an athlete like Bush holding down your backfield must look pretty appealing.

Vince has made no secret that he'd like to play for the Texas, though. They'd be fools not to sit down and take a good look at all of the draft options.

3. I see what you mean
I was confused by the "toed the line" and was thinking you were implying they said what they were supposed to say, and I wasn't sure the "why" they were supposed to say it. Misunderstanding on my part.

It is strange how very little progress the team has made, though ... i'm sure vince would at least guarantee a lot of fan support (though bush would bring excitement too, I suppose). Personally I think bush will be a better pro, though.

One thing that seems strange to me is that they made that kind of announcement even though they don't have a coach yet. Apparently the new coach will have zero input on the matter. Wouldn't that possibly turn off some of the more qualified/established candidates who might want, say, some input in the direction of the team? Is it going to be Kubiac (I'm a Denver fan, and reading their reports online it seems they think it's likely ...)

4. Yeah, you'd think a prospective coach would want input.
Kubiak, huh? Hmmmmm, I haven't been following the progress of the interviews enough to say with conviction that it would be him. Good call on following the online Denver reporting. I guess he'd be a satisfying choice, although I sure wish they would interview Mike Singletary. He's destined to be a head coach soon, and I'd take the chance. He'd definitely light a fire under the defense.

Bush may well turn out to be a better pro in the long run, but I wouldn't count Vince out. He has some things to work on at the pro level, especially with his throwing mechanics, but he's such a hard worker that I think he'll succeed beyond being just another Vick/Cunningham clone. Vince can read defenses extremely well, and he sees the field like he has x-ray vision. If he can learn how to pass from the pocket and deal with the blitz, he'll be hell on defensive coordinators.
