The NFL Draft - predictions
Its still a few weeks away, but shat do you think your team will do: I am a Giants fan. We so desperately need help at LB that we will take whatever the ebt LB on the board is, unless someone drops way lower than we expected. The Giants usually take the best available player regardless of need at the position, but the LB spot is so thin I swear I could play for them.

I hope Chad Greenway the OLB from Iowa is available. If not, Bobby Carpenter from OSU is a Big Ten stud with a good rush on th epasser and run stopper, and the speed to cover the fast tightends coming out of college these days. In the second round I am hoping that Ashton Youboty from OSU or Gabe Watson from Michigan are around. Yes I love Big Ten defensive players..

1. I, too love Big Ten defensive players
I just wish they weren't leaving Ohio State...

But I would love to see AJ Hawk go top 5 (which is what many are predicting).

And my Bengals need some good LB's and lineman, on both sides of the line.

3. AJ Hawk will go top 5
He is one of the best defensive forces in the past 10 years, but I thought the same of Andy Katzenmoyer, and he has not been the top force in teh NFL I thought he would be.

5. right
it's a big transition from college to NFL. I think AJ will do fine, but there have been a lot of people i thought would be great who sucked on ice.

For what it's worth, I don't think Reggie Bush will be all that great in the NFL.

6. I think Bush will make the transition
but he is not a 25 carry per game back. I see him as a guy who gets the third and 5 conversions and is hard to bring down on special teams, but not as a bruiser.

7. yeah
he's a spin and dodge player; i just wonder how his strategy will work against bigger, stronger, and faster defenders

8. Well
he played well against Oregon and Notre Dame, who had the fastest linebackers in the country. I don;t think he will hold up to many hits from big interior linemen, but Houston has a solid line that should give him time to get to the outside. If they start using him as an inside runner he will get killed.

15. Just made that cut
AJ is going to historic Green Bay, Wisconsin. Can't wait to see who the Steelers pick at 32.

2. I hope the Vikings get a good running back
and some more defensive help (I think we need at least one good defensive back and perhaps a linebacker.)

4. I think your Vikings and my Giants are going for the same LBs
Both teams biggest need is on the defensive sideof the ball, and at linebacker. Rumor is both teams love Greenway from Iowa.

The tough spot for you will be that no one is taking a RB except Houston with Bush. I don;t like any of the next few backs on most draft boards. Many people love DeAngelo Williams from Memphis and
LenDale White from USC. I think both are great situational players, but neither is a full time NFL back. If I were the Vikes, I would go for hometown boy Laurence Maroney from Minnesota, who will probably be around when they pick in the second round. They have two picks in round two, so they can trade up to get one of these backs in round two if they need to. They also can hang back and select the best back on the board and grab a backup QB in round 2. Johnson is not the long term solution, and at that magic age, there is always the possibilty of an injury.

10. I like your thinking
Yes, Brad Johnson is not a long term solution at QB. I actually do hope they pick Laurence Maroney, I have seen him play (I go to a couple of Gopher games every year) and though he may not be an explosive back, he is good for 4-5 yards a carry.

11. Maroney has moved up most boards to the second back after bush
I hope he is there for you. He will be a very good NFL back. He is strong as hell and hits the holes fast. He may be a little explosive once he has a big line in front of him. I hope you guys can get him.

9. I agree with you on the
two LBs that the Giants should go after. We need a backup LB or a CB.
D' Berk will go 4 to NYJ.

12. The secondary is preety shored up after the free agents pick ups
We NEED LB help. I hope they go for a fast OLB who can drop back and cover. The second round shold be the best DT on the board, then a wide out. I have not given up on Toomer yet, I think he will be fine once he gets in step with Manning.

13. Giants sign 2 LBs Arrington and Short
This changes my thoughts on the draft quite a bit. They still need help at defensive tackle and in the secondary, but there are not much in the way of low first round talent in these areas. I can see the g-men going with a big offensive tackle now the Pettigute is getting older and showing more signs of injury. IF not a tackle, maybe a fast WR.

I think the Arrington deal with work out. the contract is for mow base money and big cash for incentives, so Arrington has a reason to dominate like he once did.

14. how will my team do?
they'll probably draft a QB in the first draft...seems like the dumbest move they could make right now, so it's probably what they'll do.

(I'm a tad miffed after their playoff performance)

They've got Rex Grossman and just acquired Brian Griese. So...I have to wonder whether they'll bench Grossman because he couldn't come in with what, 3 NFL games under his belt and single-handedly win a playoff game...or keep Griese as the veteran backup until Rex gets hurt again...or play musical QBs as they have all too often in the past.
