1. Just North of Boston and find every store chain is on the same

uphill climb. I coupon when I can but even that is now foolish for us. I do not need 3 jars of jelly to save 50 cents, there are only 2 of us. With gas so high, it is not too cost efficient to run all over the North Shore to save 10 cents a pound on apples. I went yesterday to pick up something on my way home from work and walked past the fresh fruit section of the Stop & Shop. Cantaloupe---$2.98 each. Don't think many will go out the door at that price.

We do have a new store called Price-Rite fairly near that seems to offer slightly lower prices on certain items but it is hit-or-miss on the items they carry. Nice enough place to shop but just a little far to go for us. Some weeks there are no Cheerios, next time no Folgers. It seems to be a little like the warehouse store approach of the 70's and 80's around here. Those are all gone now, the only remaining are the big chains.

We are stuck with Market Basket, Stop & Shop, Shaw's or the little mom and pop shops and those are dropping one by one.

2. Online

West of Boston. I order groceries online. It is a help for me as I can no longer carry them up the stairs no walk through the big box stores.

The two that offer this is this area are Stop & Shop and Roche Brother. Both charge $9+ for delivery.

Roche Brothers is newer to the area and has a better variety of the foods I eat. I can get turkey thighs there and also soy yogurt and soy ice cream.

3. A little bit of everywhere

We make the rounds of the local 3 supermarkets and a produce market depending upon their ads and specials. My wife will only buy milk at one, but beyond that everything else is up for grabs. She coupons like crazy and I watch the ads for special sale days during the week. I usually hit the weekly one day sales and she does the majority of the weekend shopping. Both of us will go by Aldi as needed or as it fits into our route. I stop on the way home at one discount market for bananas 3lb/$1.00 and a couple of other items where they beat everyone else. The only place we will not shop is Wal Mart or Sam's.

4. We live south of Tulsa.

I work in the southern end of Tulsa and purposely work half a day on Fridays to do the grocery shopping on the way home so we don't have to waste gas (and time) going back into Tulsa on the weekend. I hit a local grocery store chain, then Aldi's all on my way home. I try to get most all of my staples at Aldi's and that saves quite a bit. We also will not shop WalMart or Sam's.

We get all of our meat, which isn't much because we only eat it about once a week, through our local food coop. It's more expensive but totally worth it because it's all grassfed and finished. We get our eggs farm fresh from a co-worker of my husband who raises chickens. Our own chickens will begin laying in less than a month.

5. I live in rural PA about 100 miles NE of Pgh

I shop at ALDI first and then over to the local BiLo grocery chain store for anything I couldn't get at ALDI. Every three months I make a trek to Trader Joes and the East End Food Coop in Pgh. for things I can't find here. We are vegetarians and the simplest things such as bulghur wheat are not found anywhere around here.

We retired and moved here from CA over one year ago. Our Moms live in the Pgh area so we are down there a couple times a month.

6. Have you looked for bulghar

in the cereal aisle. Our little mom and pop store has it there. :hi:
