When you shop at Office Depot and notice their clearance products, you will notice that they are often end with XX.01, XX.02, XX.03, or XX.04. This fixed price structure tells their sales associates the number of markdowns an item has so far.
(*I found this on another webboard so I am not sure as to its veracity; just thought it might be helpful)
Knowing the price structure will let you know whether the clearance item is truly a deal or not. You can wait until they have another markdown or you need to buy the item now before it's gone.
Here is the Office Depot Clearance Price Structure:
XX.01 - This is the first phase of its clearance first stage of clearance. The item only has a slight markdown so far.
XX.02 - This is the second phase and the item has its second markdown.
XX.03 - This is the third phase and the item is more attractive. You should start paying attention if you should go for an item because the stock may run out before it reaches its last phase.
XX.04 - This is the last phase, and the item has gone through its fourth markdowns. By now, you may only get the display model.
