Bringing home the bacon

We have been eating more frugally, but still looking to eat just as flavorfully.
I fix a crock pot of beans a few times a month and I like them flavored with ham or bacon.
I have been buying that 5# box of bacon ends at Kroger for $3.99.
It is good bacon--mostly the thick style.
I have found that it is great for flavoring beans, it is great for frying up for BLT sandwiches, breakfast, and just about anything else you need bacon for if you don't mind the smaller size pieces and slices.
It comes to about .79 a pound, which is much cheaper than the thick sliced bacon that costs $3.99 pound and I haven't found much difference.

1. Silly question, but...

Is it right there with the rest of the bacon? I don't think I ever noticed the product and will look for it next time I shop. Just wondering if it's a carboard type box or the plastic type wrap like their thick style pepper bacon?

It is in a bright red box that says "Wright's Bacon End Pieces"

I'm always cutting up the bacon to make smallish pieces for bacon and scrambled eggs. This looks like it can save me some time.

5. Just a note: there are different brands at different stores.

And I've found this to be a great idea, that really can save a lot of money. Watch the price carefully though; at one place I shopped they were actually charging *more* per pound for the ends than for the bacon on sale.
