SOS Pads... I've had the same small box for years.

I use them soooo rarely these days. When I bought the box of 4 about 10 years ago, I cut each one into 8 pieces.

I also make my own glass cleaner. Pour this into a one-gallon jug. A pint of rubbing alcohol, half a cup of non-sudsy amonia and 1/2 tsp Dawn. Fill the rest with water. Get yourself a "really good" spray bottle at the hardware store. This stuff works wonderfully on windows, on greasy stoves and other surfaces, bathtubs, walls... you name it. You'll thank me... I promise.

2. I use stainless steel pads....no soap and no rust.

Sold in packs of two at the grocery store. Works well for me. $2.00 for
a two pack.

3. I only have two stainless saucepans

and I use Barkeeper's Friend for those puppies. The rest of my cookware is cast iron, rolled steel, Le Creuset and Calphalon. I'll bet my own box of SOS pads is at least as old as yours. I only use them to clean the innards of the toaster oven when it starts looking too icky to use.

I use a little Japanese item called a tawashi for anything that's stuck on after soaking. I have a vintage one made of natural materials. I also have a big bamboo scrubber for the wok, but I use that even less frequently than I use the SOS pads.

Cutting SOS pads into dime sized pieces seems a little excessive to me, though. I'd just cut them into quarter pieces the way I use them.

Your window/household cleaner looks intriguing. Ten years from now, when I run out of the concentrated janatorial stuff I got at Costco, I'll try it.

Like one of the others here I use mostly cast iron pans and I clean them with hot water and a stiff brush. No soap. Dry the pan, rub with vegetable oil, and it's good to go the next time.

What's good for cleaning stainless steel sinks? That's what I mostly use SOS for. Thanks.
