How to recycle yarn
I found this site while looking for a knitting pattern. I just thought the idea of buying sweaters at thrift stores, then unravelling them, was very, very cool. There are a few tutorials at the site.

1. Pick your sweater carefully
Some commercially made sweaters use yarn that isn't a whole lot bigger than sewing thread, so unless you're knitting doll clothes with 00 needles you'll be at it forever.

If you have a spinning wheel, you can ply small weight yarns together to make something useful for handknitting or weaving.

Also look at the fibre content. Natural fibres are always best as synthetics and blends tend to pill and weaken over time.

Another thing you can do with old 100% wool sweaters is felt them and then stitch the felt together to make other items from slippers and mittens to hats and bags or use it for appliqué.

2. check for vermin too....put them in a freezer for a week or so to
kill what ever may hatch in there later. Didn't, wish I had. It's really hard to see things, so freezing is the best way to deal with it.
