Swiffer Wet Jet cloths you can make:
http://tipnut.com/make-your-own-swiffer-cloths/

I was looking for a recipe for the cleaner and ran across this site. Seems 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup water works pretty well.
I used channel locks to get the cap off the bottle, and finger nail clips on the inside of the cap to make it reusable.
I'm going to make the pads out of some old towels, and maybe some velcro if needed.
Here's to cheaper clean floors! :toast:

2. I was also looking up recipes for cleaners
one individual drilled a hole in the top of the bottle, used a funnel to fill it and put a cork in the hole. Sounds like a good idea too and it doesn't run the risk of leaking over time.

3. I am not sure if this would work in a Swiffer but ...

Here is a good cleaner that is cheap and works as well anything I've bought at the cost of scads more. Costs about $.30 per pint. I bought some spray bottles from Costco that have measurements molded on them and then used nail polish to mark where I fill them. Then:

4 oz household ammonia to the 4 oz line
4 oz rubbing alcohol to the 8 0z line
1 1/2 C water
Squirt of dish detergent.
Food coloring to remind yourself what it is

I use this to clean windows, cut grease on the stove hood, on the counters, in the bathroom, it sparkles up a stainless steel sink real nice, as a stain remover (stains have to be recent) on the rug, on the floors, on the walls, on upolstry that has a fresh spill, on clothes to remove stains, pretty much anywhere. Is a germ killer too. My cats HATE it so they won't have accidents where I've sprayed but my neighbor says this isn't true for her cats.

Cheap! Oh and you can make it stronger for hard jobs, I replace some of the water with 2 oz more of ammonia and alcohol and it works good. Just check paint surfaces though honestly I haven't found a surface it harms.

4. Hi!
Sounds like a good formula for cleaning kitchen floors. I have a Clorox product and it's easy to get the bottle open to refill with whatever I want.

Does it smell harsh?

Welcome to the frugal forum!

...Windex. It is not too harsh to me, but in small places I use it with the ventilation on, like in the bathroom.

Had to come back here as a 2nd thought. Perhaps if the smell is too annoying you culd put some old cologne in it or something that smells good. After all cologne often has alcohol in it anyway, though I am not sure what the ammonia would do to it as far as change the smell. It might be worth a try ~ and use up that old bottle of cologne you have stuck in the back of your dresser too. I've never tried that but I think I will just try it to see what happens when I make my next batch of "Mom's Stuff" (that is what the kids call my cleaner because for years they would say, "Hey Mom, where is your Stuff?" or to someone looking for some, "I saw some of Mom's Stuff under the kitchen sink ..." LOL!)...
