A few years back I looked into ways to actively monitor my electric consumption. I did this after finding a small hot water leak under the house that in the end was costing me about $35/mo. All the items I found were too costly to rationalize buying.
Recently, my electric company upgraded meter boxes on homes. This gave me the ability to monitor electric consumption hourly, a day later, through Google Powermeter.
It is pretty dang cool! I'm still playing with it and figuring out its benefit.
If you are curious if you have the ability to use it check out these links. If you already understand it share ways to help cut down usage :)
The basics through my electric company are here.
