I post this to my yahoo group about once a year and thought I would warn you about it as well. I have found that certain gas stations put their lowest grade in the center between the medium and high grade of gas.
I believe they do this because if you look at one end and it is not the low grade you may automatically go to the other end and just put the gas in your tank without looking. They almost got me with this. I can not remember which station does this since the only one I go to any more is Citgo, but I did want to warn you to please look and make sure you are getting the price and grade you want instead of paying more for a different one.

I don't remember if it was exactly as you describe. I just remember that I almost put a more expensive grade in because the arrangement wasn't what I assumed it would be.

2. At first I didn't quite understand what you described |

But now I get it. On the big pumps where all the grades are there, the Premium is usually on the end. But they sometimes put it in the middle? Yipes! That could screw up an engine if it requires premium gasoline and the person automatically reached for the end pump.

They are actually more like this:
Premium ----> Low grade -----> medium grade
They do it like that because you usually just look at one end of the pump. If that end is not low grade then most people grab the grade at the other end without even looking. This is a natural response as I have almost done it any number of times. Your brain goes on automatic and you just pick the last grade instead of the middle grade. I swear they do this to trick you into paying more. You really can't trust any of them, can you?

3. Yes; they got me the other day! |

I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention; it was somewhere I don't ususally go to for gas. I paid $3.19 instead of $3.09. Really irritated about that.....
