Tips for conserving energy when using household appliances

....A refrigerator uses more energy than any other appliance. An average refrigerator uses two times as much energy as a dishwasher per year. Securely cover liquids and wrap foods stored in the refrigerator. Uncovered items release moisture that makes the compressor work harder.

...Do not keep the refrigerator or freezer too cold. Recommended temperatures are 37 to 40 degrees for the refrigerator fresh food compartment and 5 degrees for the attached freezer section. A temperature of zero degrees should be maintained in a separate freezer for long-term storage. A full freezer keeps warm air out when you open the door.

A lot of this info is "self-evident" but it serves as a useful reminder.
