Hello anyone here. It looks like this forum has been pretty quiet recently, hoping someone comes and sees this.
All the hoohaw over the Cordoba House is really getting to me. I think people develop their opinions based on emotions, then look for ways to validate them. Educating people, talking to people, trying to get people to simply open their minds to possibly seeing that all Muslims, all Islam is not the same, is not OMG SCARY!!! bs is tiring.
I went through civil rights struggles, went through women's rights struggles, still continue to go through equal rights struggles and am tired of trying to counter the Islamaphobia that has become so apparent.
However, having grown up in the northern tier, spending time in Louisiana after Katrina was a shock at first, having the bigotry so in my face since I was used to having it be covert. Once I got past the thought that there was still more covert, that it was in my face and apparent instead, it wasn't easier to deal with but different and, I guess easier since I didn't have to wonder. Now, with the OMGness happening as far as Islam, and it being so in the face, at least it is out there. Not saying it is good or any better, but just now I don't have to wonder but it is apparent.
I am a secular humanist, was happy to find this designation since I don't feel any closeness to the UCC that I grew up in. But trying to promote tolerance, to embrace differences, to encourage people to work together. So, onward with trying to talk with people, trying to counter MSM bs, trying to counter fear with the reality that there are jerks in any group, and a whole lot of decent people, that variations are a good thing, as it tolerance.
Any assistance or correction of what I post is welcome. I do not know a whole lot, but I do know a whole lot else. Thanks.
