Police probing explosion outside Cincinnati mosque

An explosion went off near a mosque and a house occupied by an Islamic association, authorities said in Cincinnati, Ohio.

No injuries were reported.

Police closed nearby streets and investigators combed the area late Tuesday with bomb-sniffing dogs.

"This is very disturbing," said Karen Daboub, director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Cincinnati. "And not only for this mosque and our community, but for the Islamic community in and around Greater Cincinnati."

1. News Conference Held About Bombs At Mosque

Local religious, political and law enforcement leaders held a press conference Wednesday morning concerning Tuesday night's pipe bombing at a Clifton mosque.

The FBI says the incident has not been classified as a hate crime, but it will be looked at as such.

"No group has claimed responsibility for this act," said Stanley Borgia of the FBI, adding that law enforcement will not stop until the suspect or suspects are identified and brought to justice.

Along with analyzing physical evidence, investigators will spend time Wednesday talking to members of the mosque to see if any individual members might have received threatening mail or phone calls recently.

Police are still trying to find out who is responsible for the crime

2. Not a hate crime?

okay, it may not be considered a hate crime now, but i wonder, would it be considered a hate crime if a Christian church or a synagogue?

But i actually am not surprised that a mosque was bombed (oh my!! and i doubt if Muslims did it!!) because from what many people hear about us being terrorists they probably thought it right...Did i mention they weren't the brightest crayon in the box?!

In hadith it is said that in the last days holding on to our Islam will be like holding onto a hot coal.

One sad comment: I heard this news over the radio this afternoon and also heard that other mosques had also had threats, but they gave no details-does anyone know of other mosques that might be in danger?

CLIFTON – More than two dozen religious leaders and public officials gathered at the Islamic Association of Cincinnati Mosque this morning to condemn the Tuesday night bombing of the group’s buildings.

Rabbi Abie I. Ingber, president of the Greater Cincinnati Board of Rabbis, called the bombing incident “a deplorable act toward everyone” in the Greater Cincinnati community.

There were two explosive devices that detonated outside in the doorways of two adjacent buildings of the Islamic Center Tuesday night, Borgia said.

One explosion damaged an overhead glass panel in a front entryway at the mosque, and the other damaged a door on a porch at an adjacent house.
