JimmyJazz and Merh came up with the great, great, heartbreaking, hopeful idea of putting together a photo montage of Katrina Survivors with Bob Geldoff's song "Do They Know It's Christmastime?"
...and now a MYSTERY DU KIND SOUL is working to put it together!!
:bounce: :loveya: :bounce: :loveya: :bounce: :loveya: :bounce: :loveya:
I think this is an incredible idea - my heart breaks daily as I hear stories from the survivors and my rage overflows daily as I witness the callousness of Congress and (what feels to me to be) a majority of Americans who have become engrossed with their holiday plans with hardly a second thought for millions of our brothers and sisters who are suffering.
I want the link to this video spread far and wide to touch hearts that seem to have gone cold. I *believe* that it could remind people what "Christmas" is supposed to be about.
How could this benefit survivors?> The final frames of the video can include the toll free number to Congress to ask that everyone call in and ask members of Congress if THEY remember it is Christmastime
> The final frames can also include the website and/or phone number of grassroots groups that are survivors helping survivors rebuild their lives.
Our MYSTERY DU KIND SOUL needs help!S/he has downloaded the song and some of the more recent survivor pics. What s/he needs:
> Lots and lots and lots of ((((((((( ))))))))) from DU'ers posted in this thread. This is gut-wrenching work -- the photos, the stories, the song all churn up huge emotions.
> A list of the agencies and groups that are actually helping - DU'ers who have been affected by the hurricanes, what say you?
> Links to more recent pics that s/he may have missed.
> Any chance that someone here has original photos that they would share - good quality without any copyright issues?
> How about permission to use the song?
> Any ideas how we could catapult this into the mainstream? Places to post the video? Organizations that might put it on their webpage...?
I, IndyOp, will be searching for pics -- and helping our MYSTERY SOUL, but the more hands and hearts we have involved in this project the better it will be...
GEORGE MICHAEL
Do They Know It's Christmas
(Bob Geldof & Midge Ure)
Performed by Band Aid
Recorded on November 25, 1986
It's Christmastime
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime
But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging
chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you
( Cut lyrics about Africa, no snow, no rain or rivers - :( )
(Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone
(Here's to them) underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again
Repeat then fade
