I'll be working to get it filled out for the next couple of days.

Images, stories, likes, we need everything.

But, now we have a base.

If you hate it, remember, cosmetics can come after content. And maybe, we can snag an actual webmaster/istress. lol

www.katrinaunderground.com.

cheers,
Beth

1. Beth, how can I help? I know nothing about how to put a site
together, but if I see articles, do you want them? Funkybutt's been posting a lot of NO-related stuff that I'd gladly put here. What is the focus going to be?

2. We need images,
news articles, reputable orgs to donate to, ideas for actions.

I know very little too! But, I've put some pages up until we find someone who can do better.

If you see articles, images, calls to action, send them to me. I'll -put them up.

The focus is getting a grip on Katrina at every level, using grassroots strength, hearts and numbers.

How do we get to Carnegie Hall?

:toast:

Once we fill out the site, we can refine it, as you all see fit. And, get it hooked up to other sites, to press, etc.

XXX

Beth

4. I've yet to see her site. My thinking is, the more of us
that step up. the more places people have to trip over on their way to getting offa their remotes.

:)

I will put up a link to her site, for sure.

14. Charitable & Helping Resources
http://www.lightupthedarkness.org/katrina.htm

I compiled this list myself and tried to make sure every agency listed was front and center, along with the Salvation Army & Red Cross for those who need "brand names". I'm going out of town this week-end, but I will begin updating it on Monday and adding categories. Take whatever links you feel comfortable in advocating.

I was going to say I don't know how to upload such a thing or have a host site, but that may not be true. I need to check it out, but may not be able to get back to you for a week or so. Trveing fo the holidays, internet connection will be tenuous. I'll pm you when I find an answer to if I can get the PPT slide show up online.

11. before Thanksgiving there was an NPR story on the disaster being
experienced by local LA and MS banks and therefore their customers

people known to local banks could get loans with little delay; with now mostly regional and larger banks, the people are finding it much more difficult to get even small loans to help them get back on their feet

I think the story was on ATC; it was an element of the disaster that I had not considered

13. Do you know of this group?
http://www.communitylaborunited.net/

They have a web site and send out action alerts, started a fun to help people in the region.

PLEASE POST ** CIRCULATE WIDELY ** PLEASE FORWARD

Do you have 60 seconds?

Help mobilize thousands for justice in the South!

60 seconds is all it takes to pick up the phone, call your favorite

radio show, and make a shout out that lets thousands of Hurricane Katrina

survivors know how to get involved in actions to demand their right to

return home and rebuild.

The People's Hurricane Relief Fund & Oversight Coalition (PHRF) and the Mississippi Distress Relief Coalition are sponsoring an unprecedented 3 days of education, strategy, action and culture for thousands of displaced storm survivors December 8-10th. The displacement and poverty of so many of our sisters and brothers from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama makes them hard to locate and mobilize for action to demand their rights to real relief, to return home and to rebuild.

That's where you come in. All you have to do is:

1. Use the list below to locate a radio show with live call-ins in your

area

2. Call this Monday-Thursday (12/5-8) and say you'd like to make an

on-air comment or a shout out

3. When it's your turn to speak, say:

Hi! My name is __________, and I want to make a shout out/comment to

all the Hurricane survivors taking action to demand the right to return to

and rebuild their homes. Thousands of storm survivors and grassroots

organizations are coming together to strategize for real relief on

December 8th and 9th in Jackson, Mississippi, and marching for the right to

return and rebuild on December 10th in New Orleans. Get on the bus and come on down to demand justice! For the details on where and when, holler at your folks at 1-888-310-PHRF (7473)!

4. When you're done, send an email to: info@youthmediacouncil.org if

you can, to help us keep count of how many calls went out.

Make time to fight poverty and racism in the South. 60 seconds is all

it takes!

Sorry for my bad manners.

There's serious cookie baking happening here and that can lead to very serious consequences if left unattended.
