Gulfport/Long Beach/Pass Christian Pics 12/27/05

Finally got around to uploading the pics I took when I went to Mississippi on 12/27 with my grandmother. It seems the search for human rmains continue. At the destroyed Wal mart in Long beach, there were 2 white vans behind the building. There were people wearing white full body suits, I presume looking for remains. And they totally plowed beaches deep - also presumably to look for buried bodies. All along Hwy 90 every building across from the beach is totally destroyed. Keep in mind these pics taken by a Canon A95, so I don't have a fancy zoom lens. Since I was riding with my grandmother I didn't have time to document as much as I would've liked but I tried to get some interesting things. Although we did go by Waveland I didn't want to upset my grandmother even more so I didn't drive into town. We just went to a lawyers office in bay St Louis right off 90.

Long Beach Wal-Mart - if you look through the building you can see the white vans. I'm pretty sure a cop was over there so I didn't venture closer to see exactly what they were up to

There were lots of destroyed boats along Hwy 90, this is just one



Even houses on pilings were swept away; looks like this owner kept a sense of humor



Many homesites were swept clean, so people just spray painted the address on a piece of debris

I couldn't get as close as you did, though, and it just doesn't translate blown up.

I stayed at an RV park on Broad and Hwy 90 for about a year. It breaks my heart to see this and remember.

I'm surprised at how much destruction and debris is still there.

The plowed beaches are creepy.

I guess there will still be plenty of things to clean up once I get there in the spring. Sigh.

5. The destroyed WalMart was really creepy

I was on that stretch of U.S. 90 just yesterday (1/7), and I kept thinking that the whole area looked as if it had been bombed.

Seeing all the clothes, bedding, and furniture stuck in the tree tops was also exceedingly creepy.

6. I remember...

After Hurricane Andrew, walking around the neighborhood with debris everywhere, thinking I was in another world. I felt like Burgess Meredith in the Twilight Zone, only back then I didn't need glasses.
